the design plan

For those of you that have used my services, you know what a plan can do to help things go smoothly. Not to mention that it can also save you from costly mistakes. A plan also ensures you don’t overstep the overall vision for your space. So how do you achieve that plan? It’s easy for some and not so easy for others. Some will call in a designer for a lot of help which may include finding the look, doing the drawings, shopping, sourcing, installing, etc, while some will call in a designer just for the overall plan so they can tackle the space (or spaces) on their own. Of course many will also try to go it alone.

For those trying to go it alone, here are my simplified personal tips for you in point form.

  • Decide on the space or room you want to tackle and give it a name - ie - eclectic family room, serene bedroom…

  • Define your vision - pin photos of spaces you love for inspiration and quick reference

  • Set a budget for the space to be completed fully, even if it might take you some time to complete

  • Draw a scaled floor plan if you can so that you have an easy bird’s eye view of the dimensions of the space

  • Decide on what you want or need to keep, then draw that onto the floor plan

  • Draw your ‘new’ pieces onto the floor plan to see how it will all fit

  • Make a shopping list for all the things you need to achieve this new look and consider these elements:

    • Furniture

    • Accessories

    • Art

    • Plants

    • Lighting

    • Window Treatments

  • Set values for each piece needed so you you can stick to your budget

  • Set things into the room as things arrive according to your plan

  • Start enjoying!

If you follow these steps, you will have a much easier time achieving the final look you are after.

Still don’t think you can achieve this on your own for that perfect look? I’m still around!! And I still have my Covid specials, so check those out here - Services
