in, out and new for 2018... in my point of view

So many of you that read my blog know that I am all about 'real-life decorating', and that I'm always trying to make design suggestions to my clients that they (you) really like and want. But trends, regardless, do come into play for most, and I am often asked, 'but what do you think will have the most longevity?'. So that brings me to this blog about what I, anyway, think will be in, out and new for 2018, and hopefully for many years to come. Would love to know what YOU think too!

Add back some colour! Deep jewel tones are making a comeback.

Add some curves! Curvy edged furniture feels fresh and soft.

Continue to paint out those mouldings the same as the walls - and maybe add a touch of natural wood too.

OUT - the narrow mosaic backsplash. It's just been around for too long and there are more exciting choices now.

Still IN - Try something on like this backsplash for big trendy impact.

... or add similar flare in a more subtle way.

Add a touch of red and get bold with it! 

OUT - dirty looking granite and granite overload.

A quartz counter feels fresher and cleaner and allows for the backsplash to really shine.

... and maybe go thick like this for a quartz profile too!

Don't ignore the ceiling anymore! Add texture, colour and wow factor.

New for 2018 - Painting the trim a colour other than white, or the same as the walls, is hot this year!

If you have wood trim - maybe consider leaving it this year!

Keep your greys and whites, but consider some of these other colours to get you going in a new direction in a small way... maybe on the ceiling or just your trim to start?
